How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Juin and Juillet were both in the favored nest box together, like a good big and little sister. It’s nice to see them sharing, but I imagine little Juin was having to sit very still and squinty in order to not get pecked by giant Juillet, who really hates when others invade her proportionally large bubble.

Two today so far. Bossy laid one in the coop, and Flossy laid one in the chicken “hospital”. I’ve been keeping her separate to soak and wrap her foot. I’d been suspicious she had a bumble foot, but there was never anything there. It’s been on and off swelling for a while. I finally corralled her and put her on stall rest almost two weeks ago. Been soaking and wrapping with icthamol but when the scab came off there would be no blood or pus or anything. After two weeks of “stall rest” along with soaking we checked and lo and behold, there was a bumble! Got it pushed out, cleaned and wrapped. Finally!

11 today and they all made it safely into the house.

Only 12 eggs today and 15 yesterday. But almost half of my hens are broody and refuse to stop. Just went out for the nightly head count and found two more in the nest boxes screeching and fluffing up like hens from hell...

Yay! I’m glad Flossy’s on the mend!

Me too! I’ve been getting more concerned bc it was swollen and warm, but no real scab or anything to see. When it DID get a scab, and we pulled it off after soaking, it was dry inside. No blood, out or anything. And suddenly today, a bumble! Yay!
