6 today! 1 when I went in to clean/let them out at 8am, 3 more at 11am, 1 more at 12:30 and the last one at 2pm -- was very cute, the last one was Harriet (a non-crested Cream Legbar) and she is one of my regular escapees. I always was worried about them laying in the hedge, but today at 2, she was at the gate, singing her egg song, wanting to get back in to the house. I was there, so I let her through -- they can easily just jump up to the fence and fly down (that's how those rascals escape!) and she laid a BIG ol double yolk egg that left a little blood smatter lol poor thing.
But now I know its HER whose laying that gorgeous blue egg!
It’s chilly here. First frost might come tomorrow or the next day, so I was frantically trying to cover plants and gather up the last harvest before sunset. Picked large bunches of lemongrass and holy basil, so I’ll have plenty of organic herbal tea over the winter!
Four eggs out of my six 27 week old Legbar hens today, and four yesterday. They have been ramping up. Also found a broody today, so I got the raised hackles, growl, and a peck to the index finger for moving her to get the prized egg.
First time moving a broody hen. Hilarious. That Jurassic Park growl is just classic.
