1 egg today, from Juin

It’s chilly here. First frost might come tomorrow or the next day, so I was frantically trying to cover plants and gather up the last harvest before sunset. Picked large bunches of lemongrass and holy basil, so I’ll have plenty of organic herbal tea over the winter!

Been frosty here the past week - brrr! It was -3C this morning.

Came home and it was 16C (61f); found 12 eggs - fed one to my grey lady who is having a heavy moult, mixed in some chick starter.

I have about 8 ladies in various stages of moult and not laying. And I have my new pullets just starting to lay. So it’s evened out pretty good to keep my supply stable.

7/11 today but I'm a little confused. It appears my Blue Australorp laid 2 eggs in one day? I suspect her egg yesterday was buried so I missed it.

We stayed just above freezing yesterday and today, and no cold nights forecast in the foreseeable future

9 yesterday as well as today.
Emma aka Clueless gave us a big surprise as when it was time to lock up the coop for the evening, hubby found her sitting on the top step of the front porch! I suppose she decided to go gallivanting and couldn't figure out where the coop was.
It was a good thing that the dogs didn't rush out. Our Molly has a bad prey drive and it would have been ugly if she managed to get to her. On the bright side, we glad that she at least picked a spot where she would be noticed, otherwise we'd be scouring the woods for an AWOL chicken.
