Here’s Août hard at work!

That is super mama your silkies. Her kids are so lucky. Only my Japanese bantam held on to her chick for 9 weeks, that is the longest of my hen. My Australorp is the same like my Wyandotte, 5 weeks is the most they do. Next time I need new chick, the Pekin bantam hen turns. I hope she will keep her kids as long as your silkies or half way.
I would love to see a pic of you bantam - those chooks are gorgeous ♥️

My old gal Sophia went broody at 5, first time ever! Same deal, I tried to break her out of it, but after 6 weeks she was really getting poorly, I was at the feed store and they had a shipment of chicks in. I bought 4, went home and shoved them under her and prayed.

When they started chirping her eyes opened wide, she wiggled her body and wings and snuggled them in close. Gosh she looked so happy. Next day she was eating and drinking and had her babies to care for. She kept them for about 10 weeks, an actually the kids left her - she tried to keep them with her but nope they wanted to be free 😊

Today I got 15 eggs! Wow! I think a few of the older hens are finished moulting and coming back online.

Sold 10 dozen today which will pay for some fees. Still have 8 dozen or more to sell.

No eggs yesterday or today, but we got a snowstorm here in West Georgia. The girls didn’t leave the coop at all yesterday, except I saw Goldie on top of their run for a short while. Today the big girls came out exploring, but only Bossy went back to the coop. I found Flossy in the ground by the rear wheel of my truck. Thankfully she was close enough to grab and carry back for the night.
Sure hope it warms up for up for you soon.
