How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

My six girls all vie for the same box, and even if I put a fake egg in the other boxes they won’t lay in any box but that one. If it’s occupied by someone they can’t bully out of the way, they will be frantic and pace while singing their egg song, and when they can’t wait any longer they’ll quickly climb into the box (sometimes on top of the other chicken), and will hang their backend off the side and lay in the sand. As long as they’re standing in the box when they lay they’re happy!

Mine will crowd in and just park on top of the earlier occupant to lay their egg.

I have witnessed some birds crawl UNDER other birds but Harriet couldn't bully whoever was in the nest I guess and needed to lay LOLOL

One today from the big girls and Sis said she got one yesterday too! Yay! We haven’t had an egg with a shell in several days.

You poor dear! I know how those naughty birds are, laying in those hard to reach corners! I put a five-gallon bucket back there and store my grit or oyster shell in it to block those corners. What are you putting on your hands to heal those cracks?

Some antibiotic ointment at night. I can’t type with them bandaged so I don’t bandage them during the day - the toe is fine it’s dry so I am just leaving it be.

Hard to text though hahaha - I am one finger pecking

I am going to remove the hidey-hole tomorrow, they need to go back to laying in the nest box!

There were 4 in there today in addition to 15 in the nest boxes for a total of 19 eggs today.

I now have 15 dozen eggs to sell here. Just from this past week !

In summer here I have fans going full blast, it gets very hot and humid here.

I make sure the nest boxes are in a good breeze, and at night I have a few going in the hen house.

Even my horses have fans in their stalls.
