Westphalian deathlayersWhy such beautiful chicken named Deathlayer?
I saw the photo, so beautiful breed and horrible name Deathlayers. I hope they are a hardy chicken and do not have reproductive issue.Westphalian deathlayers
That is where the name comes from: they continue to lay eggs almost every day until they die.
I found more info in English about this old breed and how the strange name appeared . I have no personal knowledge about their health or longevity. 180 eggs a year is not extreme. In general the old heritage breeds are often quite strong and individuals can easily get 10 years old if there are no inbreeding problems within the breed.I saw the photo, so beautiful breed and horrible name Deathlayers. Isa Brown should be named Deathlayers because they lay egg every day until they die from laying egg, but their life span is around 2 years in real life. They will start having reproductive issue around 1.5 years of age.
Thanks. I read it. I don't think we have this chicken breed in Australia as I have not seen or hear of it. It must be a rare breed.I found more info in English about this old breed and how the strange name appeared .
