How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I ended up with 5 today! Both orpingtons, deathlayer, and easter egger. My schijndelaar pullet also decided to join in the fun today and laid her first green egg (top right, second to last egg).

Why such beautiful chicken named Deathlayer?
Westphalian deathlayers
(from https://kippenfokkerij-de-kriel-jouwweb.jouwweb.nl/de-beste-legger-van-de-hele-wereld Dutch name = doodleggers)
Don't be put off by the strange name.
of this chicken breed: it is a breed of german land chickens , looks very nice and the hens perform well.
That is where the name comes from: they continue to lay eggs almost every day until they die. This can be deduced from old german text, meaning that older hens also produce a lot of eggs.
This breed was developed from speckled German land chickens at the beginning of the 19th century and is related to the Brakel or Breakel.

I saw the photo, so beautiful breed and horrible name Deathlayers. I hope they are a hardy chicken and do not have reproductive issue.

Isa Brown should be named Deathlayers because they lay egg every day until they die from laying egg, but their life span is around 2 years in real life. They will start having reproductive issue around 1.5 years of age.

I found more info in English about this old breed and how the strange name appeared . I have no personal knowledge about their health or longevity. 180 eggs a year is not extreme. In general the old heritage breeds are often quite strong and individuals can easily get 10 years old if there are no inbreeding problems within the breed.

Thanks. I read it. I don't think we have this chicken breed in Australia as I have not seen or hear of it. It must be a rare breed.

Heritage is healthy. Isa Brown is a production layer so it has a very short life span.
