How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Well, it’s been a tough couple days here with weather issues, and sick chooks. I have been gather eggs with out counting them. But it’s safe to say last couple days at least 15 each day.

I didn’t bother counting tonight either, dealing with a frail critical elderly hen, she has passed but she had a lovely long life and I even have a daughter of hers.

Seems even though it’s still miserably cold and snowy, the chooks seem to think Spring is on the way. Ladies please slow up! Save some for summer.

And so it goes the older ladies will pop out eggs now and then they will be done until Autumn. I am ok with that.

So sad for your loss. I know that I would be crying like a baby if/when one of my girls passes. Good to know you have a daughter from her though.

No chickens eggs today, but 2 duck eggs and I saw 1 broke shell-less duck egg in their run.

11 eggs today but I broke one after taking it away from a lavender EE pullet (hatched in April, so 9 months old) who has decided to be broody. I checked on her about half an hour ago and yup, she is still on the nest (everybody's favorite nest, of course!), and growled at me when I took her portrait. That dark "bar" in front of her is a shadow cast by the camera's flash.

Tis the season, I have 5 silkies (one just getting over being broody - I caved and gave her two chicks), and 4 Orpingtons, I am sure to have fun Spring with broodies soon enough.

Imagine my frustration with my silkie pullet back in the Fall, started laying eggs for a few weeks went broody and for 6 weeks I tried to break her. Finally on Christmas Eve I broke down and gave her two chicks I managed to find online.

She was a happy as a pig in mud then. She’s back to laying eggs and is pretty much done with them, but at night she still snuggles the.

She could have not laid eggs though so soon! I am over run it’s eggs!

6 eggs today! 5 duck and 1 chicken. Although I found 1 duck egg in the yard so that wasn't laid today. I did get 4 duck eggs laid today though, which I haven't gotten in awile!
One of my Easter Eggers has been chatty this morning and is currently in a corner of the coop making a nest.

There was no information of prior conversation about factory farming from me that was stupid or ignorance.

If you wish to advocate for the Isa Brown by educating me on the suffering of the Isa Brown, your statement above is the wrong way to do it.

You do not know anything about my experience with Isa Brown so it is reasonable and constructive to first ask, to understand and then share.
NOT belittle and judgmental like what you wrote to me above.

Not enough! I did not get anywhere near enough today I got one.. from 10 chickens! And it’s from one of the oldest which is 7!!
First egg of the year. I’ve got some that are 8-9 months and should be in peek laying but no-

It’s a tough topic, and one that is close to all our hearts.

While I have nothing good to say about factory farms, the reality is the world is in need of feeding - people need to eat

Sad sad dilemma, and it’s made worse by those who are removed from where their food comes from - we are the fortunate ones, we get to share our lives with these funny intelligent creatures.

When I first took my chicken to the office, I was very surprise that a few of my colleagues have never seen an ALIVE chicken in real life.

Yes, they love holding my chicken. I don't work there anymore, but I get an occasional email to come over with my chicken. I called to confirm and I was reminded...bring your chicken. It feels like chicken show and tell but for adult.

People are amaze that the Japanese bantam is actually a chicken.
They love my beautiful looking Silver laced Wyandotte, I got to tell the Wyandotte story, especially the name.

That is saying not many of us living in the city know about where our food come from or that it was once a living, breathing and loving being. That is just how our modern and fast pace world is constructed
