How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I put my order in for 7 Dominique pullets, 7 black Ameraucana pullets and 1 black Ameraucana cockerel from Cackle Hatchery, because they have REAL Ameraucana chicks, not EEs with fake Ameraucana-sounding names, and bc Doms are sexable at hatch and have rose combs not very subject to frostbite. And I do like Doms and have always wanted Ams even though they are so pricey! And 15 is the least you can order without having to pay $20 for a "small-order" fee, although in theory you can order as few as 3 chicks if that's all you want. I won't get them till July 7 and they probably won't start laying until March of 2026, at which time I'll be needing to cull some of my OG hens anyway. I'se excited! I'm "eggspecting" again, lol!

But .. July is 5 months off ...
But I won't have to brood them in the house, will I, like when I get babies in April! 🤣

It will feel like a nice surprise by then!!!

What babies are you getting in April?

I managed to overload the incubator and have good fertility this time, so 30 eggs are upright in cartons in my NR360 and mom had to buy a rolling pin stick thingy from the H. Depot and a round plank... now the incubator tilts from side to side! So that's working, lol. How are they all going to hatch in there, she asks... tsk, so many details. Babies!!!

I ordered:
7 female Black Ameraucanas and
7 female Doniniques and
1 male Black Ameraucana from
Cackle Hatchery, because ...
They actually have real Ameraucanas, not EE sold under misspelled names that SOUND LIKE "Ameraucana" (although I also really like EEs) .. and
Doms are sexable at hatch and have rose combs, not subject to frostbite, I've had them before and like them...

I've wanted Ams for YEARS but have balked at the price. But decided, I am not getting any younger .. .
And I actually can afford a few...
And if not now, when? ...
And I don't want to get to an age when I can't have chickens any more and look back and think, gee, I wish I had ...

So. I did it! 😊

Lately, I’ve been boosting my girls’ calcium by dissolving a couple calcium plus D tablets in water then adding some layer feed to make a mash of sorts. They gobble it up!
But I’m still getting soft/no shell eggs from the Golden Comets. I saw one of the big girls in the crepe myrtles this morning and when I checked a bit later, there was only remains…
