How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Two days in a row of three eggs from three 22-weeks-old pullets! 😍

I got my very first egg from my first flock of pullers ever! I’m STOKED! Even tho I’m bummed my EE gave me a brown egg lol. Photo credit of my 3 EE, the far left is the one who layed.
Beautiful egg, though! That’s a good-sized egg for a first timer.

When you crack it, check to see if the inside is blue.

Her single comb is interesting. Most EEs have a pea comb, but they’re such mutts that there are lots of possibilities.

the insides can be colored?! 😳😮
Blue eggs, and those related colors like green eggs, come from a genetic mutation that causes all the shell material to be blue, so it’s blue inside and out.

For eggs laid by hens with this genetic quirk, the (blue) egg travels through the reproductive tract, until it reaches a spot where brown pigment can be applied to the egg, if that is in the hen’s genetics. This is often called the “spray booth” around here. A blue egg with brown deposited on the outside will be greenish or olive, but the inside will be blue.

If the hen doesn’t have the RNA mutation for blue eggs, her eggs will start out white, and then may or may not get brown laid on in the spray booth. But even if the egg is a rich brown, the inside will be white.

- this is my understanding. Chicken genetics people, please jump in to correct whatever might be wrong!

Congratulations! That first egg is exciting!
Where did you get her from? I will say, she doesn't look like an Easter Egger to me. She looks more like a Sapphire Gem, Blue Rock, or something. Which explains the brown egg!

Unfortunately it looks like one of the newer eggs quit. I will try and candle again in a day or so (depends on what the one due to hatch Wednesday does) to confirm, even though I'm certain it didn't make it.
The new eggs are on day 7.
Well, I candled this morning and I saw movement and the outline of the chick?! Unless I got the eggs mixed up? But I did candle all and saw movement in all, one I wasn't sure on (maybe it was that one?), but I did see some movement. I swear it was the right egg though. Not sure when I can candle next because...

I have a pip in the one egg!!!
