I agree I was pretty lucky with our dog, so many people here have flea and tick problems. We never took him to a vet after a bad experience and our dog lived to a ripe old age of 17, we only had him put down at that time because he was unable to climb the steps in and out of our house and would rather just stay in and do his business inside. Believe me that was a 2 year long de is ion we made. That's when we said no more dogs for us, we just couldn't do that again. He lived a good life with us and we still miss him.

But I am now in love with my chickens too! 8 eggs today, 2 were whoppers!

My girls set a new record today: 14! I have 17 hens that are currently laying, so it was pretty impressive. ^_^

Same here Prairie Chicken - 14 here out of 17 as well. How cool is that!

My Buffs are 2 months younger than the Barreds, they are maturing out nicely!

I got my chicks in March so that makes them that many weeks old In August I was getting about 5 out of 10 hens consistently. Now, I'm getting anywhere from 1 - 3 from 10 hens. I thought maybe the problem was we needed a light bulb in the coop. However, my husband is remodeling out upstairs before our baby comes early December and he would have to do some serious electrical work to get me a light bulb out there right now. House remodeling and wood cutting are top priorities. However, I also have about 11 roosters. Can the rooster to hen ratio be causing me an egg-laying problem? I got straight run chicks because it was cheaper but that was a mistake. I don't mind having several roosters but this is too many. And of course I am attached to them now as pets and don't know what to do to reduce my rooster population. I will never get straight run again. Girls only.

Well 3 are finally laying, but now that means 10 more are on their way to get started. Our Ezmae laid a double yolker Monday...my daughter was thrilled-the egg was HUGEEEEEEEEEEEE. Nope no parasites, but I'm sure I will get that problem in the spring, always do with the other critters. I'm anxious to get my ee's eggs...easter hunting here I come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So glad my girls are doing a lot better, everyone is happy. Glad to have such good chicken friends here...AWESOME
