How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I consistently get 5/7, but one's just gotten over being broody, so it's been more like 5/6. However, I think she's started to lay again. Living alone, 5/7 is still way too many eggs. I'd like to see 7/7 just for grins, but I also dread the thought of having that many on a regular basis. I'm already up to my ears in eggs!!

awesome!!! I'm convinced it was the light ya think????

So Glad for you!!!!! oh and don't forget the worm thing, where you live I'd ask around and see what other folks do, where I live now it's dry and parasites are here but nothing like in a humid warmer climate. I asked around and folks here don't worm chickens unless there is an issue, so I'm gonna wait and see. You may still want to check it out before it causes a problem maybe in the spring.....here in Boise I only worm my cats and dogs once per season in the fall, I don't even need to use frontline or anything unless they get ticks or fleas in early spring so in that sence we're lucky, back home on the east coast we had to worm and fight fleas constantly, it's tough on the animals, all those meds, but the alternative was worse!

Rhoise- I have never had to worm a dog ever. And I never used frontline either, we live in an area that is partially wooded and never had fleas on our dog. Weird I know because I know people around here that battle all those things....we always sprinkled brewers yeast and garlic powder on our dogs food, and believe that is what has helped.
For the chickens we have a poop board with an edge that has sweet PDz and diatomaceous earth in it. Makes cleaning the poop a breeze, keeps it smelling good and no bugs.

Had an 8 egg day! Maybe the extra light is helping...

Yes I am so thankful out here in Idaho we rarely get parasites in our pets. We don't even need to worry about heart worm because its so darn dry here. If you use ivermectin( ie : heart guard) thats why you probley never have had to worm your dogs, because you already did without knowing it with the monthy dose of ivermectin!!!!

I foster alot of animals from the humane society, and they are usually loaded with parasites, round worms, tape worms, fleas, have ringworm infections, and kennel cough, or upper respitory infections. They have been abandon in filth, and neglected to the point were their own natural immune defence is weakened. I haven't had to de-flea my own pets often, but in early spring we get ticks while camping pretty bad so usually one dose of frontline lasts a season. The cats kill rodents and birds, and eat them too, we have a bunch of itchy scratchy squirrels on the property, so just for the heck of it I bring them all in to get shots and wormed in November every year.(the cats not the squirrels hee hee!!)

Back in the south east they have huge flea(which carry tape worm) infestations, and worms in general are more prolific. You being in NY,I'm sure, get a good winter freeze every year that helps cut down on the spread of parasite populations, and i'm sure the brewers yeast and garlic work in your favor too.But our friend here in Arkansas I suspect will ask around and find like many that live farther south on this website, that a regular schedule of worming is essential in maintaining a healthy flock. If not, good for her, it's spendy, and who wants to not be able to eat eggs while the chickens take their meds!! She couln't figure out why her chickens wern't laying, and we disscussed parasites as a possible factor in the process. I did check it out here in Idaho and most folks don't as a rule worm their chickens yay for us!!

12 from 16 yesterday. My first dozen day! And this on their 25th-week "birthday." Getting three green eggs every two days from the two EE's, named Hawk and Falcon. The wife has decided that our trademark here at Greyfox Farm is one (and only one) green egg, always in the upper right hand side spot in the carton. She's finally "on board" with the whole chicken-thing.
