How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

here are the girls napping and dusting today in the sun,

Napping? you call THAT napping? THIS is napping:

Well, actually not. She was mid "dust bath in the shavings". Good thing I didn't come out and see her like that. I know they sleep in weird positions but this looks like a bird dog just brought her in and dropped her!

Nelson- my girls are going slow too...only 6 eggs from 11..
Watching the girls dust bathe is a funny sight for sure...my two young nephews don't understand the term " dust bath" One nephew is like Mr. Clean and his younger brother is pigpen, and they still don't get it!

Rhoise, how did you connect the plastic to the outside of the pen? I've got my 3mil plastic and was thinking about using duck tape. (I've got quite a bit of duck tape and it seems to work well on many projects.)
Go with Julie's suggestion, that 3 mil stuff will rip in nothing flat if it isn't kept really tight. Since you have so much, it might be of value to get some 2x2's and roll the end of the plastic a couple of wraps, then screw a batten over the side where the rest of the roll starts. Maybe do that at a spacing that matches the posts on the run and you can zip tie the 2x2's to the posts. Maybe drill some holes through the 2x2 so there aren't any holes in the plastic where it is not over the wood. I don't really know how to describe the "intermediate point" wraps other than lay it out flat, find where you want the next 2x2, pull some from the "free" end so you can roll it around the 2x2. I know that is hard to visualize but you'll figure it out

Then you can reuse it yearly if the plastic holds up by simply rolling it around the 2x2s.

Today we got 4/6, yesterday was 6/6, Saturday 5/6 and Friday 6/6. Two of the ones from yesterday must've been laid late in the afternoon just before or just after they went in for the night (before 5pm) and I didn't find them til this morning. Luckily they weren't frozen, it got down into the mid 20's last night. I don't add any light in the coop at night, but I do put a little LED light in there about an hour before sunrise to get them up and moving in the morning. After being on those roost bars for 12 hours straight, they are more than ready to get moving by then :)

One yesterday, again laid in the coop, again presumably from a Faverolle

Today TWO! Laid IN the nest box, one at either end. Nice and clean.
One is absolutely from an Ancona. I think the other one is as well though it isn't QUITE as bright white.
But they are the only white egg layers I got so it will be easy to tell when they lay.

L to R: Store bought Large, Ancona, PROBABLY Ancona (though not QUITE as bright white as the other), Faverolle, dirty because she AGAIN laid in the coop.
I put both Faverolles in the nest box yesterday but they jumped right back out. No interest.
Maybe the other girls will show them the error of their ways. Actually, I guess they did since they laid this morning before the girls were let out of the coop. Hopefully the Favs were taking notes.

Guess I'll have to start taking the egg basket out with me. I only have 2 hands and I sure as heck am NOT going to put one in a shirt pocket. I've heard how that turns out.

hee hee hee i took a video of my goofballs kicking the sand sky high! that always cracks me up
when they turn all the way upside down rubing the backs of their heads :)

I have 17 hens and I was only getting only 3-4 eggs a day. However I have started giving 3 hours of extra light each morning and they are up to 8-9 eggs a day. I actually have my incubator out and I am going to set 24 eggs. LOL I am going to make hay...while the sun shines....lol
