It sounds like you are discouraged. Don't give up. How many hens do you have? How old are they? How many eggs do you get a day? What can we do to help you?
Thank you so much for the good thoughts. I guess I need to look carefully at the chickens and cull those that are not productive. Trouble is, I am not sure how to do this. I don't butcher so that is not an option. I guess I could put an add in the Bulletin Board to sell some.
It is unfortunate that I am wasting all that feed and not getting so many eggs. Of course, it has been terribly hot, too.
2 Dozen of big brown ones today for $3.00 and another dozen of the smallish ones for $2.00. I didn't think people would want the small ones but they went first when I told them $2.00. Go figure. We've been getting small bantam-sized eggs for the past 2 or 3 weeks from our 11 new Youngers (Gold Comet Started Pullets) but in the past few days they have been laying more or less medium sized eggs so they are starting to contribute to the feed fund. But we also have been getting some mega-sized eggs too and I think they're probably coming from the Youngsters too. I guess it takes a while for their systems to adjust.
in my part of the country, Mississippi, where it is really hot in the summer, people don't eat eggs as much as in cooking breakfast That seems to be more of a winter thing. When the weather gets cooler, my girls can't lay enough, but now with it hot, I have eggs running out of my ears.
