how many eggs will a quail lay

My post in this thread still holds true.... https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=549101
Even
though it's been like a sauna here pretty much every day since June 1st, they're still producing enough to keep me supplied for reproduction.....and the fertility is good too.

I'm about to set 72 in a few minutes, and the numbers starting last Tuesday (from 18 hens), and ending today is:

12
9
8
14
7
13
9

Not full-blown production from all, but they haven't completely stopped. Same case last year.

I don't know what the deal is lately, but been catchin' one running around totin' a busted shell with all the other ones chasin' after it. Not every day, but at least twice this week. Dunno........hot, ill, pee'd at the whole world needin' a cold front badly, .............

Not that it's something that never happens, it's just a little often here lately. A couple of the low-number days also had at least one with a nice peck it it, and I tossed them out.

Cant help you, but whats the difference if they are collected daily or not?

Well Mr. Smarty-Pants, if they aren't collected daily the birds might decide the eggs look 'cold' or 'lonely' and decide to give them some company (aka broody). So collecting daily does make a difference

IN QUAIL YOU'RE MUCH MORE APT TO START THEM WITH EGG EATING RATHER THAN BROODY

what do you mean egg eating should i be concerned about it and also where is the best place to order quail hatching eggs from for a good price?

Quail As Most Gamebirds, Are Prone To Egg Eating. If You Leave Eggs Available To Them It Fosters This Habit. Once Started Its A Monkey-see, Monkey-do Behavior That Will Run Thru A Flock. The Only Cure Is Death. Best Not To Let Them Start. For Eggs Look In The Bst Area Or Check Signature Lines For Individual Users And Pm The Person/s You Wish To Ask. Also Many Of Us Sell On Ebay As Well

so if i collect eggs daily then they will be less likley to start this egg eating behavior?

YES AND EVEN BETTER IF YOU CAN GET THEM MORE THAN ONCE A DAY, HOWEVER ONCE YOUR GIRLS ARE UP AND RUNNING FOR A WHILE YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SEE THEIR NORMAL PATERN... IN MOST CASES THEY HAVE A FAVORITE TIME OF DAY TO LAY (DEPENDING ON THE BIRDS THEMSELVES) AND A MAJORITY OF YOUR EGGS WILL BE LAID IN THAT 2 HR WINDOW OF TIME EACH DAY. SO ONCE THINGS GET "PATERNED" YOU'LL HAVE A REAL GOOD IDEA OF WHEN YOU NEED TO GET THE EGGS OR AT EAST WHEN TO EXPECT THEM TO LAY SO YOU KNOW TO GET THEM OUT

thanks and they will hatch their own eggs if given natural settings wont they?

It is rare that quail will incubate their own eggs. They might set on them for an hour, one day or even here and there for a week. But rarely full term. Especially not Bobwhites.
