my bantam, broody hen violet, has been sitting on nine eggs for about 2 weeks, and that's fine but I don't want nine more chickens!!how many do you think will hatch?
It depends entirely on your flock's fertility and your hen's ability. I've had a hen hatch 10 chicks from 10 eggs in the past, I also had a completely failed hatch. You can candle them to determine how many are developing.
This is where that old saying "don't count your chickens before they hatch" comes into play. You could wind up with nine, you could wind up with zero. Impossible to say.
If you don't want all the babies, it's easy enough to sell them off after they're fully feathered.
