How many eggs?

I was going to try using eggs that my pullets are laying. They are RIR. I have a rooster. That reminds me of something I've been meaning to ask. My roo is completely white. The place where I got my chickens said every other generation is white. They said if I were to hatch the eggs he has fertilized, the roos would have red feathers. Is there any truth to this, or are they feeding me a line?

I noticed pullets have some white feathers as well. Do I have some sort of mixed breed? Doesn't really matter to me, I'm getting nice eggs, just curious.

If you check out Ideal Hatchery's shopping pages for their sex linked chicks, this is what it says:


Gold Sex Links are a breed cross using Rhode Island Red males and Rhode Island White females. The female chicks are streaked with red or gold and can be separated from the solid white male chicks at one day old. This cross, which is one of the most popular used in commercial layer operations, is an efficient producer of large brown eggs. This outstanding cross has excellent livability, and mature hens, which weigh 5 1/2 lbs. can be salvaged for fowl meat when their use for laying is over.


So I dunno if it works the other way, but I'd assume so. Breed a RIW roo to RIR pullet and you'd probably get Gold Sex Link chicks? Anybody know for sure?

The temp does NOT control sex. The only think I've seen is that possible one sex or the other is more resistant to higher temps.
