How many feed and water stations do I need in a brooder for 14 chicks.
I plan to use the round mason jar type ones.

The mason jar rounds are usually good for 12 chicks, give or take. Wouldn't hurt to have two for water in there, imo.

I don't use them so can't say how fast they might go through water in them though.

I'm not certain. I have the trough feeders and a crock for water (I've only had a max of 6 chicks at a time). I always read that you should use the founts, but I find a heavy crock is easier for me to change, and you will have to change the water often. If the chicks are really small, put some marbles in the bottom so a chick doesn't fall in & drown.
TSC has some really good info on chick care for first-timers.

You can try one of each & see how it goes. If they all seem to want to eat & drink at the same time, then I'd think of adding a second one.
Good luck with your little ones!

I have brooded no fewer than 12 chicks and as many as 30, and 2 quart jar waterers were sufficient for 1-2 weeks AT MOST! They will soon outgrow even the most spacious brooder (unless it's the coop they will live in

) at a mind boggling rate. I have had to buy 4 of the gallon waterers and these do much better, though they take up a great deal of floorspace. Chicken math will assert the need to expand rapidly in every capacity.

I have 8 chicks, and use 2 round waterers with pint mason jars..... Have to replenish and clean daily. I fill jars to the top in the morning and by evening they only have about 1/2 to 1" water left and the bowl is nasty. I'm sure there is a lot of evaperation do to the high temps in the brooder (around 90 degrees). I have the larger gal size but going to use that in the chix tractor when they are big enough.
I also use the round mason jar feeders ( pint jar) and thinking of changing to the long feeder with the swinging bar on the top. They like to sit on top of everything and they are only 10 days old.
