How do you know that your buff gosling is a gander? I ask only because the sexes don't look different as goslings and most people don't vent sex. Also, when buff is mated with other colors like what happens sometimes with Toulouse, Sebastopols and Poms getting buff ganders can be tricky unless the right birds/genetics are being used.

Holderread says 1-4 geese to a gander and if fertility is a problem feathers around the vent and others that interfer with mating should be clipped.

If the pair is well bonded they can be frantic to get back together. They will wear you out with their honking, and the female can get upset enough to leave her nest, OR be afraid to get off the nest to eat or drink. The new pair can be stressed and fight. This happened to me this Spring and I was lucky to pull everyone back to normal. Wasn't worth it for me! I've heard of others with geese being able to manage this with no problem. The best advice I have is to make a trio in the fall or early winter and keep them together through the breeding season if there's no fighting. Good luck!

Would agree with Banter here. Geese are very much individuals and that sometimes doesn't jive with how we humans want things to go. If you have pasture and SPACE and it doesn't matter who goes with who then two or more ganders and a group of geese will likely sort things out and every goose will get bred. That's figuring the ganders are willing to establish and then abide by a pecking order. Sometimes they can be miserable with each other, their people or even hens they don't want in their breeding group. Observe them and as much as possible do things their way. If you want individual matings then you need individual yards. Banter's advice to mate them up YOUR way before they have a their way is good. Once you get close to egg laying you really can't change anything without risking some kind of chaos. They don't do change and ganders don't breed just because it's spring and they have a chance to grab some.
