how many hours of darkness does my duck need to make her stop laying

I have a duck who keeps prolapsing and I’m trying to make her stop laying eggs so I’m putting her in a big dog crate in a dark room at 4 PM every day and not letting her out until 8 AM. That’s 16 hours of darkness so far she still laying eggs, but it’s only been two days I wonder is that the right amount of hours, can I do less than that? and how many days should it take for her to stop laying?

I'm so sorry that happened! I also had a runner who developed a prolapse. You could get her the Suprelorlin implant to stop laying, but it's only temporary. I don't know how long it would take her to stop laying. Are you able to get the prolapse to stay in, in between eggs?

i can’t afford a vet to do an implant but yes it stays in , i treated it with colloidal silver and manuka honey. it prolapsed 3 times but stayed in for a whole week in between each time while I was treating it and giving her calcium gluconate also at this point I just want her to stop laying until spring so it can rest and I can let her back out with the other ducks

And she was laying an egg every day during that time when it stayed in for a week at a time

it’s only been 3 nights i’ve been doing this so far, and as usual she layed another egg this morning, so i have to be patient. i let her outside from 8 am to 4pm and the rest of the time she’s inside in darkness. poor sweetie.
but I feel I have to do this since I can’t afford taking her to a vet for a shot to stop her from laying and she has prolapsed three times and my chickens were chasing her around trying to peck at it , so i thank God they didn’t get her because I once lost a duck this way. (prolapse vent shredded by chickens)

Hers was having soft egg issues not prolapsing, but the end result of treatment was to get Dougie to stop laying.
