how many laying hens to get 2 dozen eggs a day

Quote:
i have 2 buff orpingtons, 2 golden laced wyandottes, 1 delaware, 6 cinnamon queens, 2 barred rocks. all 14 months old. also have 4 rhode island reds and 2 white leghorns 8-10 months old. getting 12-17 eggs a day. averageing 96-108 eggs a week.

It depends on their age, too. The first, year, they just shoot out eggs. The number of eggs declines gradually after that.

I have 34 laying hens and there are several breeds. Most of the time i get anywhere from 18 to 26 eggs a day. Now i keep up with which hens are laying since i have them seperated and the best layers are my black sex links. they lay 80 to 100 % every day and for the most part extra or jumbo eggs. Mine are just over a year old and they have been laying since they were 4 months old.
