How many males jumbo cotournix per female in a hutch? Thanks!!

I've never raised them, but I'm looking to start and all the research I've done says that a male can handle up to four females.

Coturnix males need at least 5 to 7 females as they will mate a few hens to death. If you are talking about the standard rabbit hutch size of 2 X 4, you could safely keep a male and his harem of females in that hutch. About 1 sq foot per bird. More room the better.

I have both Jmb Brns and A&M I have the best fertility rates at 3 to 1 ratio.Like 2 crow said there sex maniacs.I think a male could handle 7 easy but in the heat around here ther hatch rate goes down. They will work them girls over...cva34

I was told, in a class on quail raising that I took, that a good flock is one male for 3 to 5 females. I'm surprised to hear that some believe 5-7 is better. I may go get some more hens, if that is the case.

Personally I don't keep more than one (tamest) roo in a cage. I've found that they just don't get along well and the fighting starts. Right now I have 1 roo and 3 hens and all seems to be well. Hope this helps.

okay....last question....please dont laugh...but how can i tell male from female?

The ratio vary depend on the male. The male have rusted (dark yellowish) color compare to the female.
