How many of you are Fisherman or Fisherwoman?

I think my love for fishing stems from growing up in Spain, after mom moved away from Canada taking us with her we lived with my grandmother, and my great grandparents lived right next door. My great granddad was a deep sea fisherman has his own fleet of boats and once in a while he would take me and my big brother with him. We would set off to the Mediterranean in the middle of the night and spend several days out to a week out at sea. I used to know how to mends nets and my great granddad even made us heavy duty fishing poles from bamboo. on my second trip out I caught a baby shark, I was only 7 and I needed a lot of help to get that thing on the boat, his crew mate took a pic of it and then they let it go, Was a little upset I couldn't keep him to be honest.

there is no seafood I do not like and I just enjoyed the fresh caught seafood the crew members would cook up on the boat. I fell off the boat once when my great granddad chased me around with a huge octopus and that is how I learned to swim. I loved octopus, but it definitely needed to be cooked, if it was moving, forget it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went from being surrounded by the sea, and eating clams & mussels straight from the sea to moving to somewhere where there was barely any water to go fishing.

One of the many reasons to moving to northern Ontario was for the great fishing. I love it year round. Ice fishing is just awesome too, definitely a total different experience!!!! but nothing beats deep sea fishing!!!

Nice story Ema! Fishing is REALLY in your blood. It must have seemed like such a fantastic adventure heading out to sea at such an impressionable age. A shark at age 7 too! Thanks for sharing.

thats awsome.i love ice fishing i cant wait for the lakes to freeze solid, some people think im crazy for going out fishing in the wwinter.

ya ice fishing is questionable by some people, but its such a thrill when your freezing butt finally gets the auger through the ice, and the coffee spiked with baileys does its job and even more thrilling when you finally catch that fish. And the biggest surprise and when you realize the money you spent on those gloves, boots and jacket were well worth it, and a great laugh when the pictures get posted and you realize you look like you just came out of 1950's bi plane with that stupid winter hat on!!

but yes I love fishing...just don't ask me to do it in a canoe....using a boat for fishing is great, but I will tell you I like off shore fishing, I think its more challenging. my greatest memories will always be going with my great granddad, nothing will ever top that or even come close!!

If I had a better picture, there were several 15-20 pounders on the ground behind us. We were hard at it fishing for 3 days, & it took all that we had left to hold this fish up..... then a lady called & wanted the dining table I had built her delivered that day. WHEW, what a rough day!The table was a 7 foot solid oak, about 400 lbs.
