How many of you have a "Hobby Farm"?

I have an URBAN hobby farm. We live in the city so we are limited, but we have the chickens, 2 rabbits (both girls and not for eating), 3 dogs, 1 cat, and 1 snake.

I saw that they have miniature cows and thought about looking into the laws, but dh said a big fat no! Sigh, I like goat cheese, but not goat milk, so I would rather get a cow lol

I think ours is a hobby farm too, just got a little out of hand

....selling chicks and extra birds help cover feed and show cost, but we are always dipping into our paycheck to break even.

I have a Hobby Farm! Love Every minute of it. I had a guy say to me "4 Dogs? Thats 3 to many" Opionated people! Same as others on this thread have said - If I sell a couple Bunnies or some chicks and eggs and it covers the cost of some feed, well Great. Mainly have the animals for fun and entertainment. AND get to be on BYC with other HOBBYISTS like you!

You know, there are just as many people out there wishing they could live on a hobby farm, my DHs family are professionals in LA and think we live in heaven...the reason we do this is mainly so that our kids grow up close to nature and animals, seeing the good and not so good sides of raising livestock. They show livestock in 4h, raise chicks and ducks, have cats and dogs, and quite a few horses that they love to death and compete on. We do hear sometimes that we have too many animals, but they can stick with their mall shopping, long vacations (were a little tied down for that!) and free time,

What these kids are getting is priceless, and becoming more rare in this society. Good for the poster who likes to watch their ducks!!!! Youve got the secret to happiness already

I agree we all have hobby farms.... I started mine with sister-in-law and she bailed on me when it got cold, so now I have all the chickens... I currently have 30+ chickens, 2 chicks and 3 in the incubator.... I also have 6 dogs with 2 of my females gonna have puppies within a week or two of each other... I wouldnt live my life any other way... I love my "HOBBY" farm!!! I made my first $2.00 on some eggs from another farmer that just has cows...

I will be weeding out some Silkie roos when the livestock market opens back up for the fowl... I love being a chicken hobby farmer!!!

I guess I could consider this place a Hobby Farm. We make a lot out of it, but it goes right back to us. The food from the gardens, crops, orchard, goats, chickens - It all goes back to us for consumption, and if anything makes money so far, it's the chickens, which really, it's just money to pay off other things.

I talk a big game about the money we are saving with my chicken goat addiction. my biggest arguement is my dogs eat 2x the amount my 'livestock' do and what do they give us.
I have 20ish chickens and 4 goats. I sell eggs for $2 witha $1 refund if you bring carton back. all money goes towards our 4H club since all this started because of 4H.
my hubby keeps trying to figure out how to make $ with it and all i say is more. we'd need more chickens to keep up with demand, more goats to even think about making soap or cheese.

but every morning i look out my bedroom window before i crawl out of bed to watch my girls play in the snow right now or rake up some hay that goats then eat. 5 in the morning i'm not so happy with my roos but oh well.

Don't worry about those people that just "don't get it". If you have other common interests, you can discuss those but you will never convince them or change their minds about animals. Don' waste your time or breath trying.

Just enjoy your animals and what you are doing to give them a good, healthy life. And know that there are a lot of other animal lovers out there too........you just have to look around for them.
