How many of you use lung pullers?

I processed birds last year and plucked by hand-ick! I just did 3 roos this morning. My husband made me a whizbang plucker which is absolutely wonderful! And man, did the processing go fast! However, I am contemplating getting a lung puller now. I have such a hard time getting those lungs out. Meyer wants $31 and McMurray wants $28. So onto my question...

If you have a lung puller, did you find it not worth the money? Or definitely worth it? Does it work fairly easy? Thanks!

I don't have one, but I have read on here that some people use tomato corers! They are a whole lot cheaper

They are pricey. I never would have bought one myself, but my brother ordered one. Fortunately he didn't ask me for my opinion first. Now I wouldn't be without it. It does a great job. I've never used a tomato corer or ever even seen one, so I can't compare. But I just love that lung scraper!! Makes my life much easier.

I bit the bullet and bought one from Meyer. I ordered some other things at the same time, so the shipping was next to nothing when combined with the other items. I does work very well, especially on larger birds. I think it's worth the $28 when you consider it should last forever. If you have a whizbang, you might as well take another step and spoil yourself a little more as long as you can afford it. LOL If nothing else, it gives you an excuse to order something else at the same time.

Make your own lung scrapers. I used the end off an old set of jumper cables. Cut the hinge in half to separate the two pieces that make up the clamp. Cut the wire out of the end of the metal clamp pieces. A 3/8 inch wooden dowel, 12" long can then be attached to the 1/2 piece of clamp and you are done. Works great.

DO NOT buy a $30 lung scraper!! Get the tomato/strawberry huller. I paid $3 for two of them. The end is EXACTLY like a $30 lung scraper, and works perfectly. Lungs come out whole every time.
