Do you mean that if the hatchery insists on adding peanuts for warmth but you decline them, and then if any of the chicks you order die in transit, they won't give you a refund because you didn't take their advice? I thought that was the reason for the 25-chick minimum, that number should be sufficient to keep everyone warm & protected for the journey. If you're ordering that many you shouldn't need peanuts, and if someone doesn't make the journey you should be given a refund. I think they add peanuts if you order in increments less than 25, say if you ordered only 40 they would add 10 peanuts to fill up the box. Talk to the customer service at your hatchery & see what they say.
If you don't want to keep your peanuts you can give them away or sell them. That's how I got a dozen SLW roos last year, someone was offering them on FreeCycle. I raised them up for the table and even managed to sell one too. I'm impressed with the folks who got pullet chicks as peanuts, I thought they only gave away cockerels.
