How many people on here breed silkies??

I recieved 4 silkies from Destiny_56085 (I think I have that right) that she said was pet quaility. They are beautiful birds. I 've got 3 white and 1 blue splash. She is into showing birds so she knows what she is selling, I don't see it. They look great!

The one thing she did was take the time to explain how to care for them. They is a few things different from raising normal chicken breeds.

I to am breeding Silkie, Blue, Black, Splash and Buff.

The real question is... how many people on here breed silkies that live close to me?!?

I just got my first silkie hen over the weekend... at least i hope she's a she. Now I want my second and my third, and then I want to increase my population with a couple frizzles!!

Any breeders near Central VA? You've got a buyer right here!

This will by my 8th year in raising silkies and my 3rd year in showing them. I'm currently the district 3 rep for the ASBC and the MN state rep for the NSBA. I hatch close to 300-400 silkie chicks a year. I mainly raise blacks and whites, but also have small numbers of blues and splash. I'm also trying to get back into buffs again. I get lavendars cropping up out of my splash and greys out of my whites. Over the years I've also dabbled in partridge, calicos, tortoise, and had cuckoos for 1 season.

I occasionally sell on Eggbid. Incubators run from January through August here. Except for a few extra cockerels, I'll be sold out til next spring now. Sexes are separated til after show season now so no fertile hatching eggs available for a while either.

I've had some extremely good mentors over the years. My own flock is more than a hobby and I am extremely fussy about what makes the grade here.

I got 3 lavender silkie chicks from Ideal hatchery, raised them with a pair of Chocolate turkey poults. I finally got another pen set up so I could keep the turkeys by themselves but they started raising a ruckus until I gave them the silkies back--- they think the silkies are their babies.

I'm hoping to breed some silkies next year, assuming I have at least one male and one female among the three.

We breed Black, Blue, White, Buff, Red, Lavender, and Partridge now, I have Splash and Grey added when they get ready.
The only pure COLORS I currently have are White and Black. The others are mixed together. We have just started a Showgirl project from scratch with Turkens. Next we are going to make a) Full size silkes using RIW hens. May try to go the other way and make Lavender RIWs...(RIL) but that will be spring.

I would LOVE to have some Cuckoo Silkies! They are so neat looking!
