How many quail chicks could I put in this Brooder?

So I read the comments and it seems that the author of the DIY said you could safely house up to 25 freshly hatched chicks (chickens) but would need to rehouse them at 2 weeks for more room.

With that said, how many Northern Bobwhite could you hold and up till what age?

40 for one week 20 @ two weeks, after that you're going to need more space, maybe 10 at week 3-4

Its hard to tell from the pix but thats my opinion, fired from the hip.

First week you could fit about 20 maybe even the second week but by the third week there is only enough room in that box for a half dozen, maybe a dozen tops if they aren't getting aggressive. You've never seen anything as vicious as a cannibalistic bob, if you crowd them they will eat each other.

This article actually gives you set sq footage numbers for floor space, feed space, and water space while brooding chicks. It's under the brooding section.

Always brood bobs under red or infra red light, white light makes them more aggressive.

If they are fighting a lot you can "cool them down" by killing the heat lamp for 2-4 minutes, survival overrides aggression and they'll all huddle together.
