I'm hoping to get a silkie at some point and was wondering the same thing...could I incubate eggs under her? Cool to know it's possible!

I've decided against candling, because its too difficult to see into the eggs. 14 days left and I can expect a maximum of 38 quail, but I doubt they are all fertile. I hope to get around 20, which means combined with my chickens I will have 43, that's only if 20 hatch

At day 13-14 you can candle and it's OBVIOUS which are clear.

*UPDATE*
They're hatching!

16 so far, apart from one died so 15 are alive, these are under the hen. 2 have pipped in the incubator! Dont know about the other 13

Unfortunately another died, so I am at 14. She is enjoying all aspects of motherhood! 3 have now pipped!
