How many times a day do you turn?

By 4:30 I have three total RIR's hatched. Not sure if the other 4 are going to do anything or not. I am tired so will head back to bed.

Did anyone see my post where I asked about the yellow stuff that looks like yolk. It was attached at first but now is off of all three. Is this like an umbilical cord and has fallen off? First time hatcher, can you tell?

I'm not sure what the yellow stuff is... Could be many things. Could be yolk, but given that it fell off so readily, I would not think so... Could be goo from the bottom of the egg... Part of a membrane attached to them... Waste from the egg... Or an umbilical cord! Many things. If there is no bleeding and things dry up and fall off on their own, I'm sure your chicks are fine.

THANKS, I wasn't sure if it was supposed to stay attached or what. It looks like a deflated balloon that has yellow pasty stuff inside. All three are moving around and chirping so guess there isn't anything to worry about. One was born about 10:15 last night and the other two between midnight and 4:30 when I checked them. Have 4 more to go but I need some more sleep. THANKS again!

Hmm, sounds like it could be the membrane from the egg? You could probably take a picture to get a confirmation but if your chicks are doing well, it's probably not a problem at all.

Good luck with the others!

My auto turner rolls the eggs over on their sides every hour. If I have to take out the auto turner and turn by hand, I do it as many times a day as I remember, probably about three or four. I've hatched eggs on their sides and lying in cartons, and I prefer the cartons. Easier to keep track of eggs and none of them get rolled about the place by the first chicks that have hatched...

adrian, Thanks. I don't think I am going to worry about them since the three that are out seem to be doing well. I see that there is another egg with a crack in it so might have a 4th soon. The yellow thing I tried to tell you about is all dried up now so don't think I could get a clear picture of it. None of the chicks have anything on them other than what they are supposed to look like. No strings or weird looking anything. Just cute little RIR's. Thanks again for making me feel better.
