How many turkeys can fit in a 4 X 5 doghouse?

Ha! Ha! That's sounds so funny!!!

I mean, seriously, I have a chance to take a real nice, hand built, and insulated doghouse for free! I am thinking about branching out from chickens and gettting a few turkeys to put in the freezer eventually. I already know that they won't pay for themselves. I'm just wondering if it's all worth it. Do they taste better? Is the entertainment better than TV? (Oops, rhetorical
question there I bet!) Any thoughts on the subject would be welcomed. Also, which breed would get in the freezer the fastest? Thanks!

Home raised turkeys do taste better!

The bird most likely to get in the freezer the fastest will be a broadbreasted turkey, but they are the cornish cross/broiler chickens of the turkey world. At the same time, I've heard that they really do not taste as good as a heritage turkey that takes just a little longer.

But as I said, the pros will be here shortly.

I don't think you'll be able to get many(more than 1-2) turkeys in a 4X5 space, I may be mistaken though.

Hhhmmmmm.... Only a couple? I was hoping 4 or 5 or it really would not be worth it. I mean, I would build them a large run and let them free range at times. That fencing alone will set me back plenty. I figure at least $30.00. Of course, I could always put in more chickies when I'm done with the turkeys...

A home raised turkey is so much better than store bought.

Basicly there are two types of turkeys the Broad breasted and the Heritage type. Like Kim said the BB's are the cornish cross of turkeys, they grow fast, get huge and end up in the freezer. You are looking about 4 1/2 months start to finish. The heritage turkeys will self reproduce, grow slower, you are looking at least 6 months to freezer.

Very few of our turkeys go in the houses at all, they prefer to roost outside in all weather.

I got a brand-new, large round Dogloo for my Narri hens to use as a nesting box. They wouldn't even go in it until I took the top off. Eggs began appearing there the next day!
