How many yearrs do chickens lay eggs?

They will eat cooked chicken? I feed my dog chicken breasts a lot of the time, from the store, and one day a hen came around visiting and my dog had left a little chicken in his bowl and without thinking I tried to feed it to the hen and she acted like it was very unappetizing, shook her head, and suddenly I realized what I was doing and felt a little bad. I figured she didn't eat it because of what it was. Lol.
Chickens are omnivores and mine also hunt for moles, voles, mice young rats, frogs and they even catch young sparrows and devour them as well.

The store bought chicken might have not been to her taste (think of all the medication/insecticide residues!), something I can totally relate to! :p

I don’t really get the chicken pet angle. To each their own but I’m not buying feed for dozens of unproductive hens. One or two favorites sure but it is way to expensive to feed a ton of dead weight hens.
:O !

Which is why I only have three Silkie hens as pets :) Once they land on my doorstep they are more or less Lawn Ornaments. I have a 1000lb Thoroughbred mare that is completely useless other than she 'looks pretty'!!! Tell me that isn't a lot of feed :) :)

The eggs are only for me and I don't eat very many. I love my 10 chickens and wont get rid of them if they stop laying but I hope that doesnt happen. So they will they lay a little bit through their life?
You can always expect mortality from all livestock - your best intentions will always only go so far. Over the years some will get sick and die, so there is your opportunity to increase your little flock of pets.

Half of mine are going onto their fourth year and they still lay lots of eggs. The other six are still young and not laying yet. I have 14 chickens and I hardly ever eat eggs. I have lost a couple chickens to reproductive problems, so they don’t all live to be 10 years old in my experience.
It just depends on the individual chicken, some of mine lay a lot more than others even though they are the same age.

I agree! I take good care of my chickens but I don’t think all of them will live to be 10 years old. I think that is more of the exception and it seems like a lot of chickens die from reproductive issues because I don’t think they were meant to lay so many eggs!
