How many years can a hen lay eggs? How many years can my pet chicken live (I won't be butchering)?

I am very new to the chicken experience, but since no one else has answered your question...I will try. I have heard that hens will lay for 2-3 years and they can live from 10-15 years. I could be wrong, but that is what I have gathered on this site...hope it helps!! [IMG]

They can lay their whole life, though they slow way down as they get over 4 or 5 years old. I have heard of one hen that lived to be 19 years old and still laid an egg now and then. Some breeds also live much longer than others.....

    We rotate after year 3.....
