How much calcium to give egg bound duck?

Ah, ok! I did not know I should do that, this whole egg bound treatment thing is a new experience for me. Not rude at all, I am very thankful for your advice! I will do my best!

The time I took a hen to the vet for egg binding the vet said that dehydration was the leading cause. For that 4kg hen I was told to give 200 ml of subcutaneous fluids twice a day. Since subcutaneous fluids are hard to get without a prescription, and expensive, I will tube fluids. My preference for oral fluids is something like Gatorade or Pedialyte.

@casportpony Are you in the UK? Can you recommend a site to get the flexible catheter tubes for tube-feeding from? This whole experience makes me want to import such important tools so I am better prepared next time. I asked my vet about them and they said there isn't such a thing. I said "You never have to tube-feed birds??" And they're like, "No." That is a straight-up lie as I know they must need to tube feed sometimes as it is a very basic and extremely important aspect of animal care. That's ridiculous. I know they just don't want people to know how to do these things themselves. I don't understand this country sometimes. Sorry for the rant.

I'm in the US, but the tubes I use are urinary catheters.

That's just crazy that they won't sell you the supplies!

If it's possible try to get some calcium gluconate. I don't know where you might get it because I know nothing about Sweden but maybe if you see the bottle you can try. Here is a link to what I use with much sucess with my egg bound girl.

I've been working on finding this over here. Closest says it's a dietary suppliment for vegetarians? Not sure if it's actually the same thing. But now it's bed time here, so will continue my search tomorrow. Thanks for the info!

Next morning update: still no egg. Should I give another dose of calcium? Unfortunately, I just can't get all those fluids into her since I have no tubes or SQ needles. Been trying to syringe as much as I can slowly into her mouth, but she is uncooperative to say the least. She's still up and going out foraging with us, eating some bugs, slugs, and snails (not as many as usual but still something) but will not touch her pellets or wheat.

Should I lock her in the duck house for the day so no one can bug her and all she has to worry about is laying? I think I'll do that. She's a bit low in the hierarchy and gets pushed out of resting places alot, she needs to relax and focus on this egg.

I ordered Calcium Gluconate through Amazon. Sure hope your girl lays soon. She isn’t drinking on her own?
