Hi there!
I have silkies. They were born in June last year and just recently the hen that is the lowest in the pecking order, has started laying eggs. They are all laying eggs now and there is no rooster in my flock as it's not allowed where I live.
Coincidentally, she's also started crowing? I've tried to read what the causes are, but she's not old, she isn't the top of the pecking order, she isn't stopping laying eggs. It's also not the egg song (which she also does when she lays an egg). She also doesn't really have any rooster features.
She doesn't crow very often, but when she does it it's when I've just spent time with them and I move on to do my own thing again and she doesn't see me anymore.
I don't know if it's relevant, but despite her being the lowest in the pecking order, when my other hens do a submissive squat for me and I pet them, she sometimes does come over to softly peck their backs (or butthole in one specific hen's case lol).
I just wanted to know if this is normal. I'm very attached to them and am worried something might be wrong with her.
Thank you in advance!
