How much chick grit?

How much grit should I offer my 2 1/2 week old chicks? They are in the brooder eating mainly chick starter with the occasional treat here and there. I've been sprinkling play sand on their feeder every day or so and they go wild over it. I'm afraid if I offer it free choice they would eat the whole container.

Don't worry, chickens will only eat as much as they need from whatever you offer. (With the exception of treats, of course) Sprinkling sand over their food or like what you're doing should provide enough grit for them to help with digestion.
