How Much Diatomaceous Earth To Use

You don't need food grade DE for your coop... go to any swimming pool supply company where you can get the DE in 50 lb bags ( slightly coarcer DE used for pool filters) for less than $10.

(e.t.a. - as Cargo says, Red Lake Earth is a very widely available brand sold thru feedstores as a feed additive; that is what I use, when I use any at all, which is not much)

I was told by the feed store guy that for some reason it has become very difficult for him to get DE... maybe they stop making it at a certian time of the year... I got mine at the feed store like 6 months ago for like $4.00 and it is now over $10.00. I just use a fine dusting when I put down new shavings....I always wear a mask.

I use and old 16oz spice container that I got at the dollar store and shake mine out in a thin layer.
