How much do meat processors charge per chicken?

Thanks- I'm glad you like it! Really though, the plans for these things are SO easy to follow. I was worried I'd be wasting money when it didn't turn out right, but wow- I'll NEVER go back to plucking by hand. Even if you paid someone to build you one based on the plans, it would be worth it.

I'll have to second that on the whizbang. Works exceptionally well and easy to build. Heck buy the plans, look it over and sell them on Ebay for a $2 dollar loss if you think it above your capability.

Hello Mapquest? How far is it from West Michigan to North Ridgeville Ohio?

Really though - if you are thinking about broiler farming, I think a plucker is a necessity. I only do one here and there; can't imagine doing a bunch without one.

I live in an area with a large Hmong population and they charge 1.75 for whole bird and 2.25 for it to be halved.

$1.25 Gee that isn't bad. No Amish in Wa state, are there? I know there are some Mennonites, because they used to buy fabric at my store years ago, but I don't know where to find them. I will have to explore that on the internet a bit.

I had thought the plucker a bad idea. Approx. How much for the Whizbang plan and parts?

$1.25 per bird sounds like a super deal to me.

The two closest places to me charge $3.25 (actually, $2.75 per bird less then 5 lbs, $3.25 per bird between 5 - 7 lbs, and $4.25 over 7 lbs, I assume dressed) and $4.00 per bird.

The plan book is about $20, and the plucker will cost about $300, but you can get the book on ebay for cheaper, and there are different suggestions he gives you in the book to build it cheaper.

Thanks Jaku for the info.

I think for now I will try the rubber(like)-palmed gloves method. But if things go as I hope with my first 25 to butcher I might want to consider the expense over the long haul.

Does anyone know a good processor in Colorado? Also, will processors typically do some of the birds into boneless breasts, etc... if asked or just give them back to you whole?
