cough cough...how old were those eggs? I guess you get what you pay for. 5-6 hens in 1 cage, forced to molt by denying food and water. have fun eating them eggs~ that's what i tell my peeps.....the truth

so true so true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In S.E. CT, farm eggs are selling for $2 to $3 per doz. The grocery store is $2.19 to $2.89 per doz, depending on size. BJs wharehouse store sells 2 doz eggs for about $2.

Here in Phoenix, the "going price" at farmers markets is $5 a doz, which is a bit too steep for me. Until my girls start laying, I am buying eggs at $3.00 a doz from a neighbor.

For you that are selling at a market, do you pay a vendor fee to be there? When you say you sell out, approximately how many dozen are you selling?

I did a booth once, paid $20 for the stand, sold 10 dozen eggs for $2.00 a dozen (albeit it was a VERY SMALL market). I have better things to do with my day, since I can sell them out of my house for $1.50. If I take them to the local auction, they'll sell for $1-$2 a dozen and I get 75% of that. I did have a market vendor interested in taking my eggs this spring in much better farm market, but 2 others vendors showed up selling eggs this year.

A lot has to do with LOCATION.

I have six 12 week old pullets. Wish I had room for more! (Only 1/4 acre)
The grocery sells for $1.89.. I would sell for $2 if I had extras.. but I think Between my IL's who helped build the coop.. and bribing the neighbors I won'y have any left...
