how much do you sell eggs for?

We get $3 per dozen, but my grandma gets the "grandma" price of $2, my uncle gets the "thanks for plowing our driveway" 1 1/2 doz per week, and my mom gets 1/2 doz every three weeks for donating supplies. We probably get $ for 4 doz a week, but get rid of at least 8 doz. A little loose, but it pays for the feed! (if not the treats;)

it does not make sense to increase your flock size at those cheap prices.. you are losing money on eggs and you will just compound your losses .. do a cost study..

$2.00 a doz, $1 /doz for family, Moms get theirs free. We keep the small ones for ourself.
Right now, barely enough to pay for feed. With 9 hens in full molt I'm not always getting a dozen a day. A couple of days, I only had 5 eggs!

I sell mine for $2.00/dozen. I agree with an above thread. When I offered them for free nobody wanted them. When I started charging for eggs, the hens couldn't lay fast enough. I make enough back to cover the cost of the feed. Now for the car payments....

Actually, I was talking to the Amish fellow I got more chickens off yesterday (he has a big flock of Golden Comets that he sells eggs from) and I asked him how much he sells for.

He said $1.50 a dozen, which is what I had planned to raise mine to.

No, I am not breaking even, but the money earned does pay for feed (I'm still in the hole from coops, chickens, etc... will probably never break even on all that I have invested

But it isn't a business - it's just mainly for fun, and if the money I get from eggs will buy enough feed for them, then I'm happy. Like I said, I tried giving them away, and no one wanted free eggs,

They're happy to pay for them, though.

I live in the middle of no-where, so I couldn't sell for what folks living near cities or in other parts of the country make off their eggs. People here would just laugh and drive right by if I posted those prices. If folks can get that much, more power to them, but here, it isn't practical to even ask that high a price.

If I asked for 4 bucks a dozen, I wouldn't sell any, and that wouldn't be cost effective, either.

eta - btw, for any confusion on the name change, I got it changed last night - this is the poster formerly known as Chiknmama
