We built an 8 by 8 chicken coop and are in the process of finishing the run. We have spent over $1500.00 so far! Our coop is really nice looking though, I plan to post pics when we are all finished! My 13 chickens are now 7 weeks old and in an expandable dog pen in the garage. I have to keep a sheet over it so they don't fly out of of it! I am hoping to have them in the run in about a week. Who knew that $30.00 worth of chickens could cost so much???

We have about 6 thousand in ours. It has two seperate pens... they are both 10 by 14ft. With a 4 foot feed room in between them. It has very high ceilings. And we had to go with the cement floors due to my ducks being messy and wooden floors are not good for that. Haha.
I'm happy with it, not with the price at all... seeing that is almost as much as I paid for my car! But I have been waiting 3 years for it, and love it!

We have spent less than $50 on brooder, coop and run. Using almost all recycled and left over materials from our diy house build. We purchased a small roll of Poultry wire, a wateter, and feeder and wateter for the brooding pen.

It depends on how big & fancy you want your coop to be. Biggest mistake is spending money on materials & not having proper plans then it doesn't turn out how you expected & all that money wated. My 10'x6' raised coop was maybe $200.
I built it inside my barn in a corner, so half of the walls and some structural posts were already there.
Traded some (future) eggs to my neighbor for his dog run and swing set (now a chicken run and 4x4 cedar structural posts).
I recycled all the plywood from shelves in the barn (walls and floor), floor joists are 2x4s from pallets, reused most of the nails, door motor was from an old aftermarket car window motor.
Railroad ties around the run under the coop from my neighbor, door (and hinges) was in my basement when I bought the place. Windows from an abandoned camper trailer that came with the property. Roosts are black locust limbs from my woods.
I had to buy a tarp for the roof, 2x3 rafters, 2x4 roof beam, 1x3 wood for a poop drawer frame, hardware cloth, staples, screws, hinges to fold up a section of the floor for access inside, pvc and hdpe parts for feeder, pvc, nipples, hose, hose bib for waterer, dpdt switch for door motor, and timer for the switch.

I built a 4x4x4 coop that is raised up by 2' for just over €80 and it holds about 13 hens at the most, usually around 9. I have built chicken tractors for around €40 including 12' x 8' run and a 3x4 house that holds about 12 normally. I have also built loads of smaller houses for free.
