how much does it cost to build a chicken coop?

Mine, I drove 3hrs one way to buy it. Exactly what I wanted. Paid 300.00 for the coop and 75 in gas. Came with 5 laying hens, feeders, feed, new paint and extra odd and ends. The guy who built it did a beautiful job.:D

You did great chickenlady772!

I'm $350 into mine for the coop, run, 11 chicks, feeder, and water containers. I got chickens because I thought it would be a cheaper startup than bees. They would have cost...$350. Silly me. At least the chickens don't sting.

I've got over $2000 in mine including the pen that surrounds it. Mine isn't a large coop but it's very well built (overbuilt) so I don't have to worry about it blowing away in a storm. The main coop area is 4 foot by 8 foot with 5 foot walls. It has an attached run and a quarantine area under the main coop that is also 4 foot by 8 foot with 42 inch height for sick chickens, new chickens or broody hens. I've got four new 8 week old barred rock pullets in it right now. The attached run is 4 foot by 8 foot with 7 foot ceiling and there are 4 nest boxes serving 12 hens. All doors and windows are covered with 1/2 inch hardware cloth that has been attached with lathe and screws.

It's still not finished because I still have to insulate it and run water and electricity to it. I'm also going to add a couple of roof vents this spring to help vent the heat out during the hot summer months. Things like siding instead of plywood, comp shingles instead of tin or plywood roofing and triple glazed casement windows can add to the expense real fast. I also could have gotten by with studs 2 or 4 feet OC but I stuck with the home building code of 16 inch OC.

My chickens include:
1 Buff Orpington hen
1 Black Orpington hen
2 Rhode Island Reds hens
1 Blue copper Marans hen

1 Black Copper Marans pullet
1 Blue Copper Marans pullet
5 Barred Rock pullets

1 Blue Copper Marans rooster

I had plenty of old lumber and posts, so it didn't cost much for my Bantam Coop. About $115 cash expense ....
Putting it under my Barn shed keeps it waterproof too. I use hardware flooring because of the sultry heat in the Summer time.

Installing 4 perches ... One is low for teaching them to jump. Two are high near the roof, and the other is for entering the top nest boxes.

So....the questions posed by this thread....is how much did it cost?
Around $115 for the Coop itself. 2 rolls of 30"x 10' (1/2"x1") floor wire mesh. 4 sheets of 1/4" x 8' plywood for the roof and siding. Tools, hinges, and fastening supplies were already on hand.
