Many of them require training your chickens to use them though. I have a smaller version of the one on the premier site and my chickens started using it without any training but YMMV.

I like the idea of putting a regular feeder in a trash can though. Seems like a nice low effort way to address the issue.

I just ran across some deer feeders for feeding the chickens. Has anyone used the deer feeders?

How are you distributing or giving them the food?

I ferment it. Every morning, I give them a bucket full of feed, distributed between 2 basins and a trough feeder. It usually lasts them until late afternoon. They eat a bit, then free range, come back and polish it off before going to roost. There's a FAQ article written by Tikijane that you can paste into a search bar for more info regarding FF.

One good thing about FF is that there is never any waste. And rodents can't haul it out of the feeder and carry it back to their nests.
