How much feed per chicken?

As much as they will eat. IMO, free choice feeding is a better way to feed. You know the birds are eating what they need and , at least in my experience, I end up having really good production.

Some folks limit the amount to feed or only provide feed at certain times a day. You will get plenty of opinions one way or the other.

I keep feed down for my laying hens all the time. They end up averaging 1/2 a pound (sometimes less) each for each day. Plus they get treats or scratch every day or every other day. They always have oyster shell and grit too.

I will provide you with my experience.....I have two Buff Orpington Ladies. They both are eating a free choice of a mixture of 50% Purina Layena and 50% Purina Flock Raiser (which provides an 18% protein level). They have been laying for two months and they are currently laying an average of 13.5 eggs per week. I monitor their feed consumption very carefully....and they average 0.25 pounds per lady per day... They are also provided with free-choice oyster shells and granite grit (layer size). They are not free ranged. I hope this helps....
