I have ten Partridge Plymouth Rock hens. Approximately how much feed should i give them each day? They are 12 or 13 weeks old.

Personally, I never measure their food. I keep their feeders full, so they can eat as they wish. I have 13 hens and one rooster. I have two hanging feeders that I fill from the top.

Honestly they should be on full feed, and aloud to all that want.

Another question: How do you prevent so much spilling?

There are two ways I've had success with keeping food from being wasted.....Hanging feeders are the best, I think. Just hang them at head level, so the chickens can just dip their beaks into the feeder.

The other way, if you don't have a way to hang the feeder, is put the feeder up with a wooden crate or a bucket or something stable, so the feeder is again at head lever.

Either way, they can't get their feed in to scratch out all the food.

I know this feeder takes floor space, but I got it at an auction for a ridiculously low price and it works very well at minimizing waste.

I'd snatch one of those feeders up in a heartbeat.

We used to use then whem i was a kid. They were used to feed meat birds and worked like a charm. Dad inherited them from his dad back in the early 60's.

We left them behind when we moved to the west coast. After going through and replacing several of the newer easily broken feeders we sure regretted leaving them behind.
