how much feed?

Ya definately, if that's the way you want to go. I find it more expensive if you buy scratch grains seperate and decide to mix your own with a premix feed.

Basically that's all the feed mill does is just add corn or oats like your saying... but if you get 500 lbs that's only about 60 bucks if you get it milled.

Are you feeding all day and all night? Cornish X raisers usually feed on a 12/12 schedule. Regardless. My 20 Cornish X will plow through a 50# bag of 21% broiler finisher in under 3 days. Mine are going to freezer camp this weekend at 11 weeks. They are HUGE! Next year I won't let them get that big. I had to buy some special bags to store them in the freezer cause they are sooo big.

I just finished with some cornish X's.
I started with 52 birds. Lost 5 in the first 5 weeks. At 9 weeks I took in 47 birds. My total feed used was 1100 lbs of mostly 18-21% broiler feed.
This was my first shot with Cornish X's so I can't say if this is typical or even good. But, one thing I did figure out is that the type of feeder you use can make a difference. I used 2 different feeders, but one definitely had more waste because the edges were too low. I would estimate I lost 5-10% (or more??) of the feed in that feeder due to spillage.
Something to look for.

Your not supposed to leave the food there 24/7 for the chickens?
I've been free feeding them, as much as they want... Is this wrong? It's our first time, they are 4 weeks old.. There is 28 and there eating a big bag of feed (not to sure how much is in it) a week.. (bought at the feed store Ontario Cananada)
No wonder why they don't come running when they see me, I don't bring the food... I just check to make sure lights are working and the automatic waterer is working and the hudge feeder isn't getting too empty.. The feeder fits the whole bag, so checking on them is quick.

No, if you're raising Cornish X's, most of us take their food away for 12 hours every evening. Free feeding contributes to health problems in these birds.
