I have recently been fortunate enough for my Pekin to start laying (I assume it is my 20 week old as the eggs have steadily increased .1 ounce daily in last week to 3 ounces). I also have an old Pekin also that may donate an egg occasionally too (got her from a friend to change my hen to drake ratio, she is 2-3 years old and I was unsure if she was laying when I took her.) I have a young Pekin and a WH that will soon be of age too. So I already have chicken eggs coming out of my ears, and my family cannot possibly consume one more egg dinner per week ;). I need to unload some duck eggs. I can also refeed my chickens with them, as the ducks were always intended as a novelty.

Anyway, point to my post is . . . . I may have a duck egg buyer. I was thinking 2 bucks for half a dozen, they are huge eggs, I charge $2 for my chicken eggs, but as soon as I feel I can get away with it, I will raise price to 3 due to feed increase. I would like to cultivate more buyErs and will work on that.

Also, anyone have luck selling eating eggs from ducks on Craigslist? What are your experiences?

When I had a larger flock I use to sell eggs. Since I live in the country there are signs everywhere along the road EGGS FOR SALE. I never thought to sell duck eggs until a neighbor came over one day and asked if she could get some off of me for noodles. Said she loved to use duck eggs when she made homemade noodles.
So I started offering duck eggs to my regular customers. Ended up having the daughter of one of the local doctors being my number one duck egg customer. That is all she would buy from me.

Never sold eggs on craigslist. Not big on strangers coming to the house, it made me uneasy thinking about it. I use to take my eggs with me to work and ppl would buy them on those days or on occassion I would deliver eggs on my way to work. I charged the same rate for my duck eggs as I did the chicken eggs. My runner ducks laid very well but not nearly as many folks wanted them as they did the chicken eggs.

Around here most post a sign at the end of their drive, i have had most of my luck through my husbands work.. i sell a dozen for 5$ that is the going rate.. as a matter of fact a co-worker of my mother had been buying ducks eggs a half dozen for 5$!

of coarse you'll pay about 3-4$ for farm fresh chicken eggs so our costs are higher period.

You could try a sign at your farm supply too?

Duck eggs cost more to produce. I sell eating eggs for twice what quality chicken eggs sell for.

Home raised chicken eggs sell for $4 a dozen at the farmer's market. I get $4 for a 6 pack of the duck eggs.

Thanks guys. I have had a real downturn in selling chicken eggs, just a major slow down this summer. Instead of lowering the price below 2 dollars I gave to the local food bank because we lve in an area with significant poverty, but already it is picking up again.

We also live down 1/4 mile private lane, so I don't feel comfortable having just a sign out, because 7 other folks have a house down that lane before dead ending into our property.

I plan on selling 1/2 dozen for $3 for the duck eggs for now. We will see, thanks for chiming in, I wasn't sure, because until this week, I had never tasted a duck egg:p

I would be lost without my BYC community!
