i give my 2 button quails a pinch of bird grit every day. it's the mineral-oyster shell grit i give my ringneck doves, except that i grind it up into smaller bits.
my buttons each lay one egg every day.
how much grit should they get?

They use the grit to digest their food since they have no teeth to chew with so there isn't a set amount that they need. When there is enough in the gizzard to digest, they won't want to add any, but when the amount is running low, they'll need to add some. Generally, people leave it available to them at all times and let them just help themselves to what they need.

First is it digestive grit or is it oyster shells? they are different things. Grit is only required if you are feeding non water soluble foods. If you are feeding only gamebird food they will not need any grit. If you are giving them greens and the like they will need some grit. They know how much they need so don't worry about them overdoing it.
