How much is too much to pay??

Honestly, unless they were true to standard Ameraucanas, I would probably balk a little at the price too. But then again, the area you're from may be harder to find eggs than where I live. I have several suppliers that keep me "in eggs" for hatching that I have never paid over 2.50 per dozen for purebreds. Probably hatchery quality, but with so many factors involved in incubating, I am just too cheap to take a gamble and pay so much. I bought 2 dozen EE eggs at auction over three weeks ago but 2 were early quitters, 1 late quitter, and 19 were infertile so far as I could tell: no bullseye. I only paid 1.25 per dozen so I'm not really out much if only two eggs hatch (one already has)...

Let me just say that if you live in an area where your breed of eggs are hard to come by, then 10.00 would probably be a good deal. I'm just cheap, lol. And lucky in my selection but not necessarily lucky in the fertility department with the eggs I acquire fairly easily...

Oh if only I *could* find fertile hatching eggs around here for only $10!!

Even though your ameraucanas are most likely Easter eggers, those are very desirable birds and, thusly, very desirable eggs, especially if the parents are good, hardy, healthy chooks, which I'm guessing they are.

I would not sell to her if she's trying to under-cut you. Let her know that you have looked into it and that your eggs are worth at least that much. Post an ad on craigslist... someone who knows those eggs are worth it will give you $10.

LOL I ditto HHandbasket!
Like you said, she may turn out to be your competition, so maybe you should say "Oops, we ate them!"

Hehe! If someone was trying to sell me hatching eggs right here and would meet me in town, I'd pay at least $1 an egg, for any egg! Next time you shoud ask them to pay your gas too! (Unless you're already headed that way). I hate to say it, but if you can't shell out $10 for eggs, how will you feed the chicks?

At $10, the eggs are free and your just buying your gas. Medium flat rate shipping is over $10. Stick to your guns, if she cant pay the price, tell her to go to TradersJoe.

If you have pure bred, real Ameraucanas the price is way too low in my opinion. I would think they would be worth more. I still think that if they are actually Easter Eggers they would be worth at least a dollar an egg. This lady is really low-balling you and you are already offering them VERY cheap. I wouldn't let them go for less. Then you are de-valuing them yourself. Good luck!

I wouldnt go any lower....I sell a dozen ameraucana eggs (and all other hatching eggs) for $15 in my area and they sell well...I have pure ameraucanas from Jean Ribbeck but they are all mixed in with my buffs so I have been selling them as EEs....Dont let her lowball you, if someone wants something bad enough they will pay the asking price or find a different customer.

I actually have someone coming in about an hour....they live 2 hours away in Scranton and are coming for 2 dozen eggs for $15 each..the eggs are not even pure, my bantam cochin pen and bantam lav ameraucanas are mixed durring the winter....Most of them should be EEs and they were happy to find them at the price I was offering...

I paid $20 a dozen for who knows what eggs, plus $10 shipping over 15 years ago. If this woman doesn't want your eggs at 10 bucks, please box them up and ship them to me. I'll pay the shipping....

Sheesh...let's do the math. Day old chicks cost 2 bucks each, easy. (I have seen them over 3 bucks at feed store) So that is 24 bucks a dozen and probably more.
It cost $5 bucks (give or take) to run an incubator for 21 days. Plus your egg cost for a total of $15. She is saving a minimum of 9 dollars if 12 of your eggs hatch.

Stick to your guns and get your $10.
