How much land should I be looking for?

Totally understand that.

I don't think I would mind living where it is hot most of the year, but then I guess there would be trouble with mud rather than snow.

If anyone has ducks, you know mud is a duck magnet. Or maybe I should say ducks are mud magnets. Either way mud and ducks are not a good combination.....

I used to live in northern MN. Those long C O L D winters are hard. But chickens seem to fare better in cold weather than hot.

I agree. They pant like dogs in the summer.

I hate when all the poop freezes in the winter time. It is harder to keep the coop clean because of the fact that the poop builds up and freezes into a mound and holds the straw together like glue when its frozen and makes It pretty hard to get the pitch fork in there and lift it up and put it with the compost.

I try my best to keep as much snow as possible out of the coop, but with the wind where I live, somehow there is always a small drift in the coop somewhere......

More always good to buy a bigger parcel in my opinion. Could you buy a larger plot and sell off some of it if it is to big...can there be such a thing.... I would love to get me a small 1000 acre place....right after those publisher guys with the big check come....haha hope you find a great place

Actually have to be careful with that in some areas... subdividing can get tricky sometimes. And "adding on" parcels can put you on the hook for a lot of money in additional property taxes. I didn't know about that but recently had family members looking at buying multi parcel lots, and they mentioned it wasn't practical since each lot was getting taxed individually.
